AMAZING Dawei Peninsula - Day Tour
If you like we can skip the hotel breakfast to get an early start and have some delicious breakfast at the local market (included). We will drive pass rice fields and rural villages until we arrive at a typical fishing village. (1,5 hours). We stop every now and then to explain the local agriculture for example rubber and cashew nut plantations. The fishing industry is another main income source. Among fresh fish the fishing villages produce dry fish and fish paste (nga pyi). The paste for Western tongues is most likely nothing to be fancy with, but for Asian people it is mouth watering. We take a traditional fishing boat to a secluded beach. (About 30 min one way). The crystal clear waters are perfect for a refreshing swim and the sand is so fine that you can hear it.
We get back on the boat to explore an even smaller fishing village, where we have lunch (included). The kids in the village will come to watch the Engelae, which simple means English from colonial times. In the afternoon we start driving back towards Dawei. On the way we stop at a brick factory and learn who bricks are made. Getting closer to the city the toddy palm trees become more and more. Toddy palm juice is used for cooking "moelatow", a special type of mohinga only produced in Southern Myanmar and making alcohol. We can have a taste of the local brew and explain how it is made. We arrive to your hotel in the late afternoon.
